Introducing CO.BRA Research Activities to First Semester IC Students

With the start of the new semester (May 18) freshmen students arrived at the Institute of Computation, Federal University of Mato Grosso, Cuiaba. As an introduction to the forthcoming courses on computer science and information systems our CO.BRA team member and new subproject coordinator Professor Dr. Thiago Ventura gave a presentation on the interdisciplinary research activities related to our computational bioacoustics Pantanal biodiversity monitoring studies. The students showed a great interest in the scientific information content provided by sounds, images, and videos during the presentation of Professor Thiago. We hope to see some of them in a few years to come as CO.BRA team collaborators.

Graduate Course "Science, How to Talk and Write About it"

This well-attended PPGZOO master course, with training sessions and pratical applications, took place from May 10 - 20 at theInstituto Nacional de Pesquisas do Pantanal (INPP/UFMT). The course focused on the design of scientific posters, congress oral presentations, and the improvement of scientific writing skills. It was organized by CO.BRA coordinators (Professor Marinez Isaac Marques, Professor Charly Schuchmann) and will be repeated in March 2018.

(Apr/May 2015)

UFMT / PPGZOO Course on Scientific Production

The CO.BRA research team coordinators Profa. Marinez I. Marques, UFMT, and Prof. Charly Schuchmann, UFMT and University of Bonn, Germany, conducted the first Master course in English, entitled "Science, how to talk and write about it" at the UFMT´s Biology Institute, Laboratory of Ecology and Taxonomy of Arthropods,  in April / May 2015. The participants were introduced to career-relevant skills on how to optimize the design of a scientific poster presentation and on how to proceed with a concise planning and realization of orals for seminars and congresses. Another focus of the course dealt with the structure, content, and language elaboration of biological manuscripts for international scientifc journals. Each of these three teaching topics were complemented by practical tasks conducted by each student.

International Tropical Ecology Course

Edge effect and biodiversity of northern Pantanal forests

This course, organized by the Post-Graduate Program of Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation of the Institute of Bioscience, Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, UFMT, Cuiabá, Mato Grosso (Profa. Marinêz Isaac Marques) and the University of Bonn, Zoological Research Institute and Zoological Museum A. Koenig, Bonn, Germany (Prof. Karl-L. Schuchmann), is conducted annually since 2011 at the Research Base UFMT- SESC Pantanal. The 15-day course is open to Master and PhD students from Brazil and abroad interested in Ecology and Zoology. The program covers lectures, seminars, field and laboratory research, employing modern approaches of edge effects of arthropods and birds along a forest ecotone gradient. Regularly, visiting professors from different UFMT Post-Graduate Programs participate in this course.
